November 8, 2012 by Karthick P.K

The Credentials you provided for the SQL Server Agent Service are invalid. To continue, provied a valid account and password for the SQL Server Agent service.

Installation of SQL Server errors when entering the startup account for agent service

1. Verify the windows account from which you are trying to install sql server have read permission on the Built-in folder in AD and If it did not have for some reason you will get this error. By default Everyone will have read permission on this folder. Some policy would have revoked this permission for user who is running setup

2. startup account should not be locked.

3. Anti-virus can also block the access to AD. so disable AV.

4. If you have GP make sure it is part of  Server Operators
